This is Batana at its most traditional. Our Smoked Batana Butter is made using the slow-smoking and hand-pressing method practised by the Miskito people of La Moskitia, Honduras for generations. The low-heat smoking process gives this butter its distinctive roasted coffee aroma and its deep amber colour - two signs that the oil's full nutrient profile is completely intact.
At cool temperatures it is firm. It melts on contact with your fingertips. Your hair absorbs it in a way no lighter oil can match. This is the form for serious recovery, deep moisture, and maximum conditioning.
The Aroma
Our Smoked Batana Butter carries a genuine roasted coffee and warm wood scent - natural, grounding, and earthy. This aroma comes entirely from the traditional smoking process, not from added fragrance. It fully rinses out with plant-based shampoo. Induction Seal Cap
Every jar is sealed with an induction seal cap - a tamper-evident, leak-proof inner seal bonded directly to the jar opening. Please do not use if the induction seal is broken or missing on arrival. This seal protects the butter from contamination and prevents leakage during transit, including in warm weather when the butter may soften.
Summer Shipping Notice
Batana Butter is a natural plant-based solid - like coconut oil or shea butter, it softens and may fully liquefy when exposed to heat during transit. This is completely normal and does not affect quality, aroma, or efficacy in any way. The induction seal prevents leakage if this occurs. To resolidify: move your jar away from heat sources and leave it in a cool, dry spot at room temperature. Your butter will return to its natural firm state on its own. Do not refrigerate or freeze, as rapid cooling can cause texture changes in natural butters.
The Step-by-Step Deep Treatment Ritual
Step 1 - Preparation:
Scoop a dime-sized amount into your palm. It will soften and melt with body heat within 30 seconds. For faster melting, place the closed jar in a bowl of warm water for 3–5 minutes.
Step 2 - Application:
Divide hair into sections. Apply melted butter root to ends, focusing on the scalp, edges, and any damaged areas. Use a wide-tooth comb to distribute evenly throughout each section.
Step 3 - Deep Conditioning:
Cover with a plastic processing cap. Apply heat using a hooded dryer, hair steamer, or sit in a warm shower for 20–45 minutes. For an overnight treatment: apply, cover with a satin bonnet, and leave in while you sleep.
Step 4 - Rinse:
Shampoo thoroughly with a plant-based shampoo - you may need two shampoos for heavy applications on thick hair. Follow with your plant-based conditioner.
How often? Once or twice a week as a deep treatment. More frequently for chemically treated, heat-damaged, or very dry hair.
